Summer Online Courses

Apr 17, 2009

For the first time this summer, online courses are being offered specifically for current traditional undergraduate and early-enrollment high school students.

There are a variety of courses available including: News Writing and Reporting, World Civilization I and II, Macroeconomics and others.  For a complete list of online summer courses, click here. Some fulfill the university's general education requirements while others may be used toward major or minor degree requirements or may meet an elective. According to Trevor McCready, director of instructional technology, "Students should carefully consider how an online course fits into their overall program plan.  Many online courses are appropriate for first or second-year students however several higher level courses are also offered." McCready also advises, "While online courses do not follow the traditional classroom lecture format, students should not assume they are easier or less demanding or time-consuming than regular on-ground courses. On the contrary, success in an online course requires a high level of discipline and motivation along with enough time allotted each week to complete assignments."

Current traditional undergraduate students can register through the university's Web Advisor.  For the Spring 2009 Undergraduate term, all online courses are designated as online in the Meeting Information column of Web Advisor. Current students can also select general electives that are offered through the Professional & Graduate Studies' Division that are not listed in Web Advisor. For details see the PGS online course listing.

Through Cornerstone University’s Jumpstart Program high school juniors and seniors may take specifically designed online courses during the summer at discounted tuition rates. For more information visit: Jumpstart Program.
